Turn PDF pages into PNG images
Each page of your PDF becomes a PNG, drawn in your browser and saved without lossy compression, so small type, lines and charts stay crisp. The default 150 dpi turns an A4 page into 1240 × 1754 pixels, and 300 dpi gives 2479 × 3508 for print. Pick all pages or a range; nothing leaves your device.
Why PNG suits PDF pages
Most PDFs are text, tables and drawings: sharp edges on plain backgrounds. PNG stores those exactly, pixel for pixel, where JPG softens the edges a little to save space.
Exact doesn’t have to mean big. On our busy A4 test page, 80 lines of small type over 1,200 coloured squares, the PNG at 150 dpi was 151 KB, well under half the 386 KB of a JPG at quality 85. A simpler page with a few shapes and one line of text came to 33.3 KB.
Scanned pages and photos are the exception. They have no flat areas for PNG to pack, so PDF to JPG keeps them far smaller.
Tested with PDFium via @embedpdf/pdfium 2.15.1, MozJPEG via @jsquash/jpeg 1.6.0 (mozjpeg 3.3.1) and png 0.17.10 + oxipng 9.1.1 on a Mac18,5 (Apple M6) on macOS 27.0.1, 2026-10-15. The output was byte-identical in Chromium, Firefox and WebKit.
Resolution and print size
Each PNG records the resolution it was made at, so layout apps that read it place the image at the page’s real size: a 300 dpi A4 page goes in at A4 without scaling.
In pixels, an A4 page is 595 × 842 at 72 dpi, 1240 × 1754 at 150, 2479 × 3508 at 300 and 4958 × 7017 at 600. A US Letter page is 612 × 792, 1275 × 1650, 2550 × 3300 and 5100 × 6600.
Phones and tablets go up to 300 dpi. 600 dpi is for computers, where an A4 page of about 35 million pixels fits comfortably in memory.

White pages or a transparent background
Pages are drawn on white, the way a PDF viewer shows them and a printer prints them, so the PNGs look the same in every app, in light mode or dark.
Turn on Transparent background and the paper is left out: only the text, lines and pictures the page draws are kept, on a see-through background. That suits a logo, a signature or a diagram you want to place on a coloured slide.
Some PDFs paint a white box behind everything, and that box is part of the page, so it stays white. Scanned pages are photos of paper and stay white too.
Long PDFs, one page at a time
Pages are drawn and saved one after another, so only one page is held as pixels at any moment, and the finished ones wait as compressed files. A long report never needs room for all its pages as pixels at once.
Files are named after the PDF and the page, such as report-page-01.png, with as many digits as the last page needs, so they sort in order. Converting only a few pages keeps their own numbers.
How it works
-
Step 1:Choose your PDFs
Drop them here or pick them from your device; several at once is fine. You’ll see each one’s first page and page count.
-
Step 2:Keep PNG, pick a resolution
PNG is already selected. 150 dpi is right for screens, 300 dpi for printing. To save only a few pages, choose Some pages and type them.
-
Step 3:Convert and save
Press Convert. One page saves as a single PNG; more come as a .zip, or go to the share sheet on an iPhone or iPad.
Questions, answered
Is converting a PDF to PNG lossless?
The PNG keeps every pixel exactly as the page was drawn, with no compression artefacts. Drawing the page is the one step that sets the detail: text and lines become pixels at the resolution you pick, so choose 300 dpi for small print.
Can I get a PNG with a transparent background?
Yes. Choose PNG and turn on Transparent background: whatever the page doesn’t draw stays see-through. A PDF that paints its own white box behind the page, as a scan does, keeps that box.
Which is smaller for a PDF page, PNG or JPG?
For text and drawings, often PNG: our busy test page was 151 KB as a PNG and 386 KB as a JPG at 150 dpi. For scans and photos, JPG is smaller.
Why is my PNG so large?
Resolution grows a file quickly: twice the dpi makes four times the pixels. Our test page went from 151 KB at 150 dpi to 566 KB at 300 dpi. Pick 150 dpi for screens, or JPG for pages full of photos.
Does my PDF leave my computer or phone?
No. The PDF engine runs inside your browser tab, and the PNGs are written on your device. Nothing travels over the internet, so private documents stay private and a slow connection doesn’t slow you down.
Can I convert a password-protected PDF?
Not yet. A PDF that needs a password to open says so in the list, and the other PDFs convert as usual.
