About this tool

Merge PDF files into one

This tool merges several PDFs into one right in your browser. Add your files, drag them into the order you want or sort them by name, and press Merge. Pages are copied as they are, so text stays selectable and nothing is redrawn. Your PDFs are never sent anywhere.

Your files, in the order you choose

Each PDF in the list shows its first page, how many pages it has and its place in the merged file. Drag a file by its picture to move it, or use the arrows beside it; they work from the keyboard too, and focus stays on the file you moved. Sort by name puts report-2 before report-10, as your file browser does, and Reverse turns the whole list around.

The merged PDF holds every page of the first file, then every page of the second, and so on. It is named after the first file, like report-merged.pdf, so it sorts beside it wherever you save it.

Changed your mind after merging? Change the order and press Merge again: the new file takes the old one’s place, and Undo brings the old one back.

Every page exactly as it was

Merging copies pages into the new file without touching what is on them. Text stays text you can select and search, drawings stay sharp at any zoom, photos keep their quality, and links still open.

Photos and anything else already compressed are copied byte for byte, and page content a PDF stores uncompressed is compressed as the merged file is written, so the result can be smaller than its parts together. Our three test PDFs of 2.9 KB, 925 B and 55.5 KB (the last stores its pages uncompressed) became one 8-page PDF of 10.1 KB.

The merged PDF takes the first file’s title, author and dates, so it still says what it is in a file browser or a document library.

Tested with PDFium via @embedpdf/pdfium 2.15.1 on a Mac18,5 (Apple M6) on macOS 27.0.1, 2026-10-16. The output was byte-identical in Chromium, Firefox and WebKit.

What stays behind

Bookmarks, fillable form fields and accessibility tags belong to each whole document, so they don’t come along into the merged file. Answers already filled in still show on the pages, but the fields can no longer be filled in.

A file that can’t go in says so in the list before you press Merge: an image, a file that isn’t a PDF we can read, a PDF protected with a password, or one whose author doesn’t allow its pages to be copied. The other files merge as usual.

To use only some pages of a PDF, split the PDF first and add the parts you want. To turn sideways pages the right way up, rotate the PDF, save the turned copy and add that copy here.

How it works

  1. Step 1:Add your PDFs

Drop them in or choose them from your device. Each one shows its first page and how many pages it has.

  2. Step 2:Put them in order

Drag them, use their arrows, or sort them by name. The number on each file is its place in the merged PDF.

  3. Step 3:Press Merge, then save

The pages are copied into one new PDF, file by file. Download it, or save it from the share sheet on an iPhone or iPad.

Questions, answered

How do I combine several PDFs into one?

Add the PDFs, put them in the order you want and press Merge. You get one PDF with every page of each file, in that order, ready to save.

Can I change the order of the files before merging?

Yes. Drag a file by its picture, use the arrows beside it, or sort the whole list by name. Nothing is merged until you press Merge, so you can reorder as much as you like.

Are my PDFs sent to a server to be merged?

No. The PDFs are opened by an engine running in your browser, and the merged file is made on your device. Nothing is sent to ToolHero or anyone else, and there is nothing to sign in to.

Does merging lower the quality of my PDFs?

No. Pages are copied into the new file as they are, not redrawn or turned into pictures, so text stays sharp and selectable and photos keep their quality.

Is there a limit on how many PDFs I can merge?

There’s no limit on the number of files and no daily quota. Everything happens on your device, so the most you can merge at once depends on its memory. If your PDFs add up to more than that, Merge says so before you press it.

Can I merge only some pages of a PDF?

Merge takes whole files. To use only some pages, split the PDF into the parts you want first, then add those parts here and merge them.
