About this tool

Sign a PDF without printing it

This tool signs a PDF in your browser. Draw your signature with a mouse or finger, type your name in a handwriting font, or use a picture of it, then place it on the page, resize it and add the date or your initials. The signature becomes part of the page, and your PDF never leaves your device.

Draw it, type it, or use a picture

Draw your signature on the pad with a mouse, a trackpad, a finger or a stylus; it’s smoothed as you go and saved as clean lines that stay sharp at any zoom.

Or type your name and pick one of two handwriting styles. The font travels inside the PDF, so the name looks the same on every device.

Or use a photo or scan of your signature on paper: the white paper around it can be made see-through, so it sits on the page like ink.

Place it where it belongs

Your signature lands on the page you’re looking at, near the bottom where signatures usually go. Drag it onto the signature line and resize it by its corners; it keeps its proportions. Put the same signature on every page when a document asks for initials on each one.

Add today’s date beside it, and your initials, as text in the same way. Signatures you make stay in the list until you close the tab, so you can sign several PDFs in a row. They’re kept in memory only and never saved anywhere.

A visual signature

Signing here draws your signature into the page, like signing a printed copy and scanning it, only sharper. That’s what most forms, letters and agreements ask for.

It isn’t a certificate-based digital signature, the kind that proves who signed and shows whether the file changed afterwards. If a PDF already carries one, it stops checking out once the PDF is signed here, as after any change.

Everything else in the PDF is kept: its text, links, bookmarks and form fields. To fill in or rearrange pages first, use the other PDF tools, then sign last.

How it works

Drop it in or choose it from your device. It opens on its first page.

  2. Step 2:Make and place your signature

Draw it, type it or use a picture, then drag it into place and add the date.

  3. Step 3:Press Sign, then save

You get a signed copy of your PDF, named after it, ready to send.

Questions, answered

How do I sign a PDF without printing it?

Add the PDF here, draw or type your signature, drag it onto the signature line and press Sign. You get a signed copy to save and send, with no printer or scanner.

Can I sign a PDF on my phone?

Yes. Draw your signature with your finger on the pad, place it on the page and press Sign. The signed PDF saves to your phone.

Is a signature added this way legally valid?

Many everyday documents accept a signature drawn into the PDF like this, but rules depend on the document and where you are. Some agreements require a certificate-based digital signature, which this isn’t.

Can I add the date next to my signature?

Yes. Press Add today’s date and drag it beside your signature. Initials work the same way.

Is my signature saved anywhere?

No. Your signatures are kept in memory while the tab is open and forgotten when you close it. Nothing is stored or sent.

Is my PDF sent anywhere when I sign it?

No. The PDF is opened and signed by an engine running in your browser, so it never leaves your device.

Date and initials

This adds a visual signature: your signature drawn into the page, like ink on paper. It isn’t a certificate-based digital signature, which proves who signed.
