Convert images to JPG from any format
Drop your pictures to get JPGs that open on every device. ToolHero converts PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF and BMP files on your device, fills transparent areas with white and keeps the first frame of an animated GIF. Files that are JPEGs already, such as .jpeg or .jfif, are simply renamed to .jpg, with no re-save.
From PNG: transparency becomes white
JPG can’t store see-through pixels, so ToolHero paints them white before saving. Screenshots and photos kept as PNG usually shrink dramatically as JPG. Logos and pages of small text can look a little soft, so check those first.
Only PNGs to convert? The PNG to JPG converter opens with the same settings.
From WebP and AVIF: pictures saved from websites
Browsers tell websites they can display WebP, and Chrome, Edge and Firefox add AVIF too, so pictures you save from the web often arrive in one of those formats. Plenty of apps, forms and print shops still refuse them.
Both become ordinary JPGs here. Whether the JPG comes out smaller or bigger depends on how hard the original was squeezed: we saved one test photo as AVIF at eight quality levels, and the JPG ended up between 0.54× and 2.18× the size of the AVIF. Animated WebP files keep their first frame.
Each has its own page as well: the WebP to JPG converter and the AVIF to JPG converter.
Tested with MozJPEG via @jsquash/jpeg 1.6.0 (mozjpeg 3.3.1) on a Mac18,5 (Apple M6), macOS 27.0.1, 2026-10-13.
From GIF: the first frame, kept still
A JPG holds one picture, so an animated GIF gives you its first frame. The GIF’s 256-colour limit stays visible in the JPG; converting can’t add shades that were never there. Sharp cartoons and pixel art often look better as PNG.
The GIF to JPG converter covers frames and colours in more detail.
From BMP: from huge to handy
BMP files are usually uncompressed, so a photo often shrinks to a small fraction of its size as a JPG and becomes easy to email. If you need every pixel exact, pick PNG instead.
Converting BMP files alone? The BMP to JPG converter is set up for exactly that.
From JPEG and JFIF: already JPG inside
Files ending in .jpeg, .jpe or .jfif hold the same JPEG data as a .jpg, so ToolHero renames them: no re-save, the same bytes and the same SHA-256 fingerprint. Mixed in with other formats, they are renamed while the rest convert; on their own, “Rename to .jpg (lossless)” is picked for you. For a smaller, re-saved copy, Compress is the tool.
Some PCs save pictures from the web as .jfif. The JFIF to JPG page looks at where they come from; JPEG to JPG shows how to check a rename yourself.
Picking a JPG quality
The Converter starts at quality 75, a good balance for sharing and the web. Go up to 85 or 90 for prints or images with small text. When a site sets a file size limit, use Compress to aim for a size instead of guessing a number.
How it works
-
Step 1:Add pictures in any format
Drop a mix of PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP and JPEG files, or choose them from your device.
-
Step 2:Read the notes, then convert
JPG is already picked. A short note says what changes for each kind of file, such as transparency turning white, before anything happens. Press Convert when you’re happy.
-
Step 3:Download your JPGs
Save them one by one or all at once in a .zip. They stay in your workspace if you want to resize or compress them next.
Questions, answered
Which formats can I turn into JPG here?
PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF and BMP are converted. JPEG files with other endings, such as .jpeg, .jpe and .jfif, are renamed to .jpg without re-saving.
Why do some files get renamed instead of converted?
They’re JPEGs already. Saving them again would only cost a little quality, so ToolHero gives them a .jpg ending and keeps every byte. If you do want them re-saved smaller, open them in Compress instead.
Why is my JPG white where the picture was see-through?
JPG has no way to store transparency, so ToolHero fills those areas with white rather than black. Choose PNG or WebP if you need to keep the clear background.
Is a JPG always smaller than the original?
No. It’s usually far smaller than a PNG or BMP. Against a WebP or AVIF it can go either way, depending on how much the original was compressed. You see each file’s new size before you download it.
Can I convert a whole folder of mixed images to JPG in one go?
Yes. Add everything at once. Each file gets the treatment its format needs, and you can download them all together as a .zip.
Is it safe to convert private photos here?
Yes. Conversion happens in your browser, on your device, and your photos are never sent anywhere. There’s no account to create.
