Remove the password from a PDF you can open
Add the PDF, type its password once, and save a copy that opens without asking. This password remover runs in your browser, so the file and the password stay on your device. It needs the password you already have; it cannot work out one you have forgotten.
Stop typing the password every time
Bank statements, payslips, insurance letters and tax documents often arrive with a password, and asking for it on every opening gets old. If the file is yours, save one copy without the password and keep that.
Add the PDF and a field appears on it. Type the password and press Open: the pages show up in the list, and Unlock saves the copy. The original file is not touched.
What the new copy is
The copy holds the same pages, text, links and bookmarks, and nothing is drawn again, so it looks and prints as before. It has no password and no limits, so anyone who gets the file can open it. Keep it somewhere you keep the original.
This page only takes passwords off. It doesn’t add one to another file.
If the password doesn’t work
A wrong password says so on the file, and the field stays ready. Check for a capital letter, a space at the end or a keyboard set to another language. “Show” reveals what you typed.
Passwords with accented letters or other alphabets work, however your keyboard sends the letters. If the sender gave you a password and it still fails, ask them to send it again.

Questions, answered
How do I remove the password from a PDF I can open?
Add the PDF here, type its password when the file asks and press Open, then press the button to save a copy. The copy opens without a password; your original stays as it is.
Can this remove a password I have forgotten?
No. It needs the password you were given, and it can’t guess one. If you’ve lost it, ask whoever sent or made the PDF for it.
My PDF opens without a password but is marked secured. What is that?
It has limits on printing, copying or editing, with no password to open. Those come off too, and no password is needed for that.
Is the password stored, or sent to a server?
Neither. It is checked in your browser and kept in memory for that one file until you close the tab. Nothing is saved, logged or sent.
Will the copy have a different file name?
Yes. It is named after the original with “-unlocked” added, like statement-unlocked.pdf, so it never replaces your file.
A PDF that asks for a password needs it typed on its file first. Limits on printing, copying or changing come off without one.

What unlocking does
You get a copy of each PDF with its password and the owner’s limits on printing, copying and changing taken off. Pages, text, links and bookmarks stay exactly as they are.
A PDF that asks for a password to open needs it: type it on the file in the list. It is checked on this device and never sent or saved. Nothing here can find a forgotten password.
Only unlock files that are yours or that you’re allowed to open.
