About this tool

Why convert JPG to WebP?

  • What you gain

WebP photos are typically 25–35% smaller than JPGs that look the same, so pages load faster and use less data. Every current browser displays WebP.
  • Good to know

Some older desktop apps and email clients still can’t open WebP. Keep your JPGs if you need to share with them.

How it works

  1. Step 1:Add your JPG images

Drop them in, choose them from your device or paste from the clipboard. Add as many as you like: images in other formats convert too.

  2. Step 2:Convert to WebP

WebP is already picked for you. Set the quality if you like, then press Convert and each image becomes a WebP on your device.

  3. Step 3:Download

Save images one by one, or all at once as a .zip.

Questions, answered

Will converting JPG to WebP reduce quality?

A little, as with any re-save. JPG and WebP both use lossy compression, so converting removes some fine detail. At the default quality it’s very hard to spot, and you can raise the quality for a near-identical result.

Will the WebP be smaller than the JPG?

Usually, yes. WebP compresses images more efficiently than JPG, so most files get noticeably smaller. You’ll see the exact size of every file, and how much you saved, as soon as it’s converted.

Can I convert lots of JPG files at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like: they’re converted side by side on your device, and you can download them one by one or all together as a .zip.

Do my images leave my device?

No. The JPG to WebP conversion runs entirely in your browser, so your images are never sent anywhere. There’s no sign-up and no limit on how many you convert.
