About this tool

Why convert PNG to WebP?

  • What you gain

WebP keeps transparency, so logos, icons and cut-outs convert cleanly, and photos saved as PNG often shrink by 80% or more. It’s the easiest way to speed up a site full of PNGs.
  • Good to know

For graphics with text or hard edges, use a high quality (85 or more) so edges stay crisp.

How it works

  1. Step 1:Add your PNG images

Drop them in, choose them from your device or paste from the clipboard. Add as many as you like: images in other formats convert too.

  2. Step 2:Convert to WebP

WebP is already picked for you. Set the quality if you like, then press Convert and each image becomes a WebP on your device.

  3. Step 3:Download

Save images one by one, or all at once as a .zip.

Questions, answered

Will converting PNG to WebP reduce quality?

WebP is lossy: it trades a little detail you’re unlikely to notice for a much smaller file. At the default quality most people can’t tell the difference, and you can raise the quality if you want to be extra careful.

Will the WebP be smaller than the PNG?

Usually, yes. WebP compresses images more efficiently than PNG, so most files get noticeably smaller. You’ll see the exact size of every file, and how much you saved, as soon as it’s converted.

What happens to transparent backgrounds?

They stay transparent. WebP supports transparency with smooth edges, so logos, icons and cut-outs convert cleanly.

Can I convert lots of PNG files at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like: they’re converted side by side on your device, and you can download them one by one or all together as a .zip.

Do my images leave my device?

No. The PNG to WebP conversion runs entirely in your browser, so your images are never sent anywhere. There’s no sign-up and no limit on how many you convert.
