About this tool

SVG to PNG converter that keeps edges crisp

Drop an SVG and get a PNG at the size the SVG sets, with its transparent background intact. ToolHero draws the shapes and text itself, so the picture comes out the same in every browser. Need a larger PNG, such as a 512 px app icon? Resize redraws the vector at that size, so the edges stay sharp.

Which size the PNG gets, and how to change it

An SVG describes shapes rather than pixels, so turning it into a PNG means drawing it at some size. ToolHero uses the width and height written in the file, or its viewBox when those are missing. A typical 24 px interface icon therefore becomes a 24 px PNG.

For a different size, add Resize before you download. It doesn’t stretch the small PNG: it draws the vector again at the new size, so a logo blown up for a slide or a poster keeps clean outlines. Our 24 px test icon redrawn at 512 px is still crisp, in a 4,381-byte file.

Text, fonts and linked pictures

Text inside an SVG is drawn with fonts we ship with ToolHero: Liberation Sans, Serif and Mono, which take the same space as Arial, Times New Roman and Courier New. Helvetica and most sans-serif brand fonts become Liberation Sans. Lines keep their length, though a distinctive typeface won’t look identical.

Characters these fonts lack, such as Chinese, Japanese or emoji, are left out, and the file is marked so you know. For an exact match, turn the text into outlines in your design app before converting.

An SVG can point at pictures stored elsewhere on the web. ToolHero never fetches them, so nothing about you is sent to whoever hosts them; those pictures are left out and the file says so. Pictures embedded inside the SVG are drawn normally.

Why convert SVG to PNG?

  • What you gain

Slide decks, documents, chat apps and app stores ask for pixels, not drawings. A PNG of your SVG pastes anywhere and keeps every clear area clear.
  • Good to know

The PNG has a fixed size. Draw it larger with Resize before converting, rather than stretching the PNG afterwards.
  • Measured on our test drawings

Our 24×24 icon went from a 382-byte SVG to a 319-byte PNG. An 800×500 bar chart with text labels became a 10,021-byte PNG from 3,204 bytes, and a 480×160 logo with a transparent background a PNG of 8,514 bytes from 1,607.

Tested with resvg 0.48.1 (ToolHero’s SVG engine) with Liberation 2.1.5 fonts drawing and png 0.17.10 + oxipng 9.1.1 writing the PNG on a Mac18,5 (Apple M6) on macOS 27.0.1, 2026-10-14. The output was byte-identical in Chromium, Firefox and WebKit.

How it works

  1. Step 1:Add SVG files

Drop icons, logos, charts or illustrations, or pick them from your device. Several at once is fine.

  2. Step 2:Pick a size if you need one

PNG is already selected. The PNG gets the size the SVG sets; for another one, open Resize first, then press Convert.

  3. Step 3:Save your PNGs

Download them one at a time or as a .zip. Each keeps its name with a .png ending.

SVG vs PNG at a glance

How the two formats compare, so you know what to expect.

  • SVG

    Your files

Drawings stored as shapes, paths and text instead of pixels, so they stay sharp at any size.

Best for Logos, icons, charts and illustrations, on websites and in design apps.

  • PNG

    What you get

A lossless format that keeps every pixel exactly. Great for screenshots, logos and anything with text or sharp edges.

Best for Screenshots, logos, diagrams, cut-outs with transparency, and master copies you will edit again.

Questions, answered

How do I make the PNG bigger than the SVG’s own size?

Open Resize, set the width or height you want, and convert. The SVG is drawn again at that size instead of being stretched, so it stays sharp at 512, 1024 or 4000 pixels.

Will the background of my logo stay see-through?

Yes. Anything the SVG doesn’t paint stays transparent in the PNG, soft anti-aliased edges included, so the logo sits cleanly on any colour.

Why does the text look a little different from my design app?

Your design app uses fonts installed on your computer. ToolHero draws text with its own Liberation fonts, matched to Arial, Times New Roman and Courier New. Convert text to outlines first if the exact typeface matters.

Does the converter load images that the SVG links to?

No. Linked pictures are never fetched, so opening the file can’t tell anyone you did. They’re left out, while pictures embedded in the SVG itself are drawn as usual.

Can I turn an SVG with a huge width into a PNG?

Up to 40 million pixels on a computer, enough for an A2 poster at 300 dpi, and about 24 million on phones and tablets, which give a tab less memory. A drawing that asks for more, or whose blurs and shadows would need more memory than the device can spare, is drawn smaller, keeping its proportions, and the result tells you the size it asked for.

Is my SVG sent to a server to be drawn?

No. ToolHero draws it in your browser with its own engine, and the PNG is written on your device too. The file never leaves it.
