About this tool

LinkedIn banner, photo and post sizes

LinkedIn recommends a profile cover image (banner) of 1584 × 396 pixels, a profile photo of at least 400 × 400 and, for a Page post with a link, an image of 1200 × 627 (1.91:1). A Company Page cover is 1512 × 256. Pick one, choose Fill or Fit, and press Resize.

A 4:1 banner from an ordinary photo

The cover image behind your profile photo, often called the banner, is 1584 × 396: four times as wide as it is tall. A phone photo is usually 4:3 or 3:4, so turning it into a banner means keeping a thin strip of it.

With Fill, that strip is the middle of the photo. If it misses what matters, a horizon or a skyline, open Crop Image and slide the frame up or down; the banner stays 1584 × 396. For a logo or a slogan, Fit puts the whole image in the middle on a colour you choose.

Your profile photo sits over the left-hand part of the banner, so keep anything important away from that corner.

Profile photo: square, at least 400 pixels

LinkedIn takes profile photos from 400 × 400 up to 7680 × 4320 pixels, as PNG or JPG files of up to 8 MB, and no GIFs. The Photo preset makes a square of exactly 400 × 400, the smallest it accepts; type a bigger square into the size fields if you want more detail.

The photo shows as a circle, so keep your face in the middle with a little room around it. Fill crops the photo to a square around its centre; Crop Image moves the square if your face is off to one side.

Company Pages and posts with a link

Company Pages have their own sizes, and a lower limit: every Page image must be a PNG or JPEG of at most 3 MB. The cover is 1512 × 256 and the logo 400 × 400, at least 268 × 268.

When a Page shares a link, LinkedIn asks for a 1.91:1 image of 1200 × 627. Other shapes appear in full with subtle white padding, so Fit with white borders gives you the same look, while Fill fills the whole width.

A JPG is re-saved once, at quality 90 out of 100, from your original; a PNG stays lossless.

Questions, answered

What size is a LinkedIn banner?

The profile cover image, or banner, is 1584 × 396 pixels as of October 2026, as a JPG or PNG under 8 MB. A Company Page cover is different: 1512 × 256.

What size should a LinkedIn profile photo be?

At least 400 × 400 pixels and at most 7680 × 4320, under 8 MB. Square works best, because LinkedIn shows it as a circle.

What size is a LinkedIn post image?

For a Page post with a link, LinkedIn asks for 1200 × 627 pixels (1.91:1). Images of other shapes appear in full with subtle white padding instead.

Why does my LinkedIn banner look cropped?

Most photos are far less wide than the banner’s 4:1, so only a strip of them fits. Make it 1584 × 396 here first, then move the strip in Crop Image until the part you want is in it.

Why won’t LinkedIn take my image?

Check the type and the size: LinkedIn takes PNG and JPG, not GIF, up to 8 MB on a profile and 3 MB on a Company Page. A profile photo must also be at least 400 × 400.

Can I use the same image for my banner and my Page cover?

Yes, but resize it twice: the banner is 4:1 (1584 × 396) and the Page cover about 5.9:1 (1512 × 256). Press Resize with Banner, save it, then pick Page cover and press Resize again.
