Resize an image to 50 KB and keep it sharp
Drop your image and press Compress: ToolHero saves it as a JPG of 50 KB or less, at the best quality that fits, and scales it down only if it must. On our test files a 12 MP photo became 597×796 pixels and an A4 scan 796×1126, both just under 50,000 bytes. Everything runs on your device.
Our test files at 50 KB
What the settings this page opens with made of three files from our own test set.
- 12 MP phone photo 3024×4032, 5.17 MB → 597×796 at quality 40 48,702 bytes
- A4 form scanned at 300 dpi 2480×3508, 3.22 MB → 796×1126 at quality 43 49,527 bytes
- Signature on white paper 1800×750 PNG, 167 KB → full size at quality 75 38,702 bytes
Where a 50 KB picture is enough
At about 600 by 800 pixels, a 50 KB photo fills a profile picture, a product thumbnail or a phone-sized preview without looking soft. A scanned A4 page lands near 96 pixels per inch, so ordinary printed text reads comfortably on a screen.
It isn’t enough for a print or for zooming into a group photo. If the site accepts a bigger file, use the 100 KB or 200 KB page and keep more of the picture.
Crop first, then compress
Every pixel you cut away is budget for the ones you keep. Crop a photo to the face or the object before compressing, and the same 50 KB holds a larger, sharper picture of what matters.
Your files stay in the workspace when you switch tools, so you can crop in Crop, come back to this page and press Compress. The crop and the size limit are applied together, in one save, from your original.
Why some files stop below 50 KB
50 KB is a ceiling, not an exact size. Our test signature already fitted at full size and the default quality of 75, so it came out at 38,702 bytes, untouched in pixels. ToolHero never adds padding to reach a number, because extra bytes don’t add any detail.
How it works
-
Step 1:Choose your images
Drop them here or pick them from your device; add as many as you need.
-
Step 2:Press Compress
The 50 KB target, JPG and Allow smaller dimensions are set for you. Change any of them first if you like.
-
Step 3:Save the results
Each card shows the new size and, if it had to shrink, the new dimensions. Download them one by one or as a .zip.
50 KB, whichever way the site counts
Some sites mean 50 × 1,000 bytes, others 50 × 1,024. We keep every file at or below 50,000 bytes, the smaller of the two, so it passes a check written either way.
Questions, answered
Why is my file 38 KB and not exactly 50 KB?
The limit is a maximum. When an image fits at the default quality, ToolHero stops there instead of padding it, so simple pictures such as signatures come out well under the limit.
Should I crop before resizing to 50 KB?
If only part of the picture matters, yes. Cropping first leaves more of the budget for that part, so it keeps more pixels and looks sharper at the same size.
Does small print survive in a 50 KB scan?
Normal printed text does: a full A4 page keeps about 96 pixels per inch. Fine print and faint pencil may not, so crop to the section you need or use a larger size if the site allows it.
Can I make a whole folder of photos 50 KB each?
Yes. Add them all at once and press Compress. Each image gets its own quality and size, and Download saves them together as a .zip.
Why JPG, and can I pick WebP instead?
JPG is chosen because every website and app accepts it. If yours takes WebP or AVIF, pick it under Format: those keep more detail in the same 50 KB.

Compression
We find the highest quality that fits, and shrink the image only if it still doesn’t.
When even the lowest quality is too big, the image is scaled down until it fits.
