Turn MOV videos into MP4, exactly as they are
This tool turns MOV videos into MP4 right in your browser. A MOV and an MP4 hold the same kinds of picture and sound, so the tracks are copied across exactly as they are: the MP4 has the original quality, about the same size, and is ready in seconds. Your videos stay on your device.
iPhone and Mac videos
iPhones, Macs and QuickTime save videos as MOV files. Windows, many editors, websites and messaging apps would rather have an MP4, though the picture and sound inside are the same kind. So nothing needs re-encoding: each track moves into an MP4 as it is, and the MP4 plays exactly like the MOV did.
An iPhone’s HEVC video stays HEVC, which keeps it as small and as sharp as it was. iPhones, Macs and Android phones play it; Windows’ own players may need Microsoft’s HEVC extension. A video filmed upright stays upright.
Seconds, even for long videos
Re-encoding a video takes about as long as watching it; copying its tracks takes about as long as copying the file. A 655 MB, 4-minute 1080p video takes about 2 seconds on a recent laptop.
The video is read a piece at a time and the MP4 written to your browser’s private storage as it goes. Chromium-based browsers such as Chrome and Edge use about 300 MB more memory while it runs, and a file twice the size needs no more. Firefox uses more, up to about 1.5 GB. We haven’t measured iPhones yet, so a very long video may be too much for one.
Camera movies and what stays behind
A MOV from a camera often carries a timecode track, and iPhone videos can carry camera data tracks beside the picture. Those stay behind, as an MP4 here can’t carry them yet, and the video says so before you press Convert. Every picture and sound track comes along.
Some cameras record uncompressed sound into their MOV files, which MP4 players rarely take, and editing apps export ProRes, which an MP4 doesn’t hold. Those videos say so when you add them and are left as they are: changing their picture or sound itself is a job this tool doesn’t do yet.

Questions, answered
Does converting MOV to MP4 lose quality?
No. A MOV and an MP4 can hold the same picture and sound, so the tracks are copied across without being re-encoded. The MP4 has exactly the original’s quality.
Will my iPhone video still be HEVC?
Yes. Its HEVC picture is copied as it is, so the MP4 stays as small and sharp as the original. It plays on iPhones, Macs and Android phones; on Windows you may need Microsoft’s HEVC extension.
Why is my MP4 about the same size as the MOV?
Because nothing was compressed again: the same picture and sound sit in a different box. If you want a smaller file, that needs re-encoding, which this tool doesn’t do yet.
Can I convert several MOV files at once?
Yes. Add as many as you like and press Convert once. They are copied one after another, and you can save them together as a .zip.
